Not the same as daylight hours
A 'peak sun hour' is a period during which sunlight intensity averages 1,000 watts per square meter. Central Florida might see 12+ hours of daylight, but only a portion of that counts as full-strength, peak-intensity sunlight — the rest is softer morning and evening light.
Solar production estimates are built around average peak sun hours per day for your specific location, not total daylight. Central Florida typically enjoys strong peak sun hour averages compared to much of the country, which is one reason solar performs so well here.
How we use this number
Multiplying your system's size (in kW) by your area's average daily peak sun hours gives a realistic estimate of daily production — before accounting for shading, roof angle, and orientation, which we also evaluate during your home evaluation.
